What is the Thanksgiving Day 5K?
The Thanksgiving Day 5K Benefiting Martha’s Village and Kitchen is an annual, family-friendly, run/walk fundraiser in Palm Desert, CA. The goal of the 5K is to raise awareness about Martha’s Village and Kitchen’s services, and to provide funds to support our mission to end hunger and homelessness in the Coachella Valley. Over 4,000 people attend the event including participants, spectators, and volunteers.
When/where is the event held?
The Thanksgiving Day 5K is held on Thanksgiving Morning each year. This year’s 5K takes place at the intersection of El Paseo and San Pablo Avenue in Palm Desert (across from Starbucks). The race starts at 8:00 AM. On-site registration and packet pickup opens at 6:00AM
How much is registration?
Adult Registration (13 years and older): TBA
Child Registration (12 years and younger): TBA
How Can I Register?
Online registration is strongly recommended and is open until the start of the race at 8AM on Thanksgiving Morning.
Registration can also be completed in person at either of the two pre-event registration/packet pickup days *or* onsite at the 5K starting at 6AM.
- In-Person Registration / Packet Pickup Day 1 will be held on Tuesday, November 26, 2019, from 9:00AM – 5:30PM at Anytime Fitness in Indio, located at 44100 Jefferson St, Ste E503-E504, Indio, CA 92201.
- In-Person Registration / Packet Pickup Day 2 will be held on Wednesday, November 27, 2019, from 9:00AM – 5:30PM at World Gym Palm Desert inside the Westfield Palm Desert Mall, located at 72840 HWY 111, Palm Desert, CA, 92260.
Can I mail in my registration and payment?
Yes, however it MUST BE RECEIVED at Martha’s Village and Kitchen by Thursday, November 21, 2019. Please make a check payable to “Martha’s Village and Kitchen” and include on a separate piece of paper the info for each person you’re registering: the first and last name, date of birth, sex, email address, phone number and desired shirt size.
How will I receive my race number, shirt and/or merchandise? When/where are packet pickup locations?
Shirts, race numbers and merchandise can be picked up before race day at either of the two packet pickup days *or* on race day starting at 6AM. See pre-event packet pickup locations listed in the question above the last.
Is there an age requirement?
There is no age requirement. Participants and spectators of all ages are allowed to attend and watch the event.
Do I have to pay for and register my children?
Children under the age of 5 do not have to be registered to accompany their parents on the race course. Children under 5 years old only need to register if they want a timed race number, long-sleeve event shirt and goody bag. Note that event shirts are available for purchase at the event after registration closes.
Is the race timed?
Yes, all registered participants receive a race number that includes a disposable timing chip.
When and where will the results be posted?
This year, we’ll have computers located at the registration area where starting at 9:00AM participants can look up their times by bib number.
How do I know if I won a medal and where do I pick it up?
The top three female and male finishers overall will be announced from the event stage at 9:00AM and presented their awards on stage. The top three fastest female and male finishers across several age categories can pick up their medals from the Awards Table located at the Packet Pickup / Registration area after 9:00AM.
Can I bring a dog on a leash or a child in a stroller?
Yes! Dogs on leashes and young children in strollers are welcomed and encouraged! We ask participants who bring strollers or dogs to kindly start the race towards the back of the crowd, allowing runners and jogger towards the front. Please be mindful of runners and allow them to pass on your left. Thank you!
Are scooters or bicycles allowed?
No. Due to complaints received and for the safety of all participants, scooters and bicycles are not permitted.
I registered online, but I never received a confirmation email. What do I do?
First, be sure to check your spam folder to ensure your email confirmation didn’t end up in there. We can resend your confirmation to you upon request. Simply email email@example.com with your name, email address you registered with, and phone number.
Can I get a discount on groups of 3 or more?
A specific group discount is not available, however we suggest taking advantage of early registration pricing for savings off each individual registration.
Where should we park at the event?
Please park at The Gardens on El Paseo parking structure located on Shadow Mountain in between Larkspur Lane and San Pablo Avenue in Palm Desert. Note that the garage entrances on San Pablo Avenue or Larkspur Lane will not be accessible due to road closures for the event, so be sure to enter on Shadow Mountain Drive.

What time does the race actually start?
Promptly at 8:00 AM.
What time should I arrive to the race?
If you would like to register on the morning of the race, we recommend arriving early, by 6:00 AM when registration opens. This ensures you’ll be able to start the race on time, as lines at the registration table grow long closer to race time. If you already registered online and still need to pick up your packet, plan to arrive by 7:00 AM so you have plenty of time to park and pick up your shirt and race number (if you did not already pick it up at one of the pre-event packet pickup days).
What time is the event over?
The event ends at 10:00AM.
Can I purchase a shirt alone (without registration)?
After registration closes on the day of the race (at approximately 8:15 AM), any remaining available shirts are for sale. Please note sizes and inventory availability can not be guaranteed.
Will water and snacks be provided for participants?
Yes, water from our water sponsor can be picked up near the finish line and along the race course. Complimentary bananas are offered as well.
How are funds raised from the 5K used?
Revenue raised from the 5K stay in the Coachella Valley to help local neighbors in need with food, clothing, shelter, supportive services and more. In addition, it helps to keep Martha’s Village & Kitchen’s programs and services free.
Is there a minimum amount participants must raise in order to participate?
No, Martha’s Village & Kitchen does NOT require individuals to fundraise in order to participate in the 5K. However, personal or team fundraisers are highly encourage and deeply appreciated. All funds raised for Martha’s Village & Kitchen go to support programs and services that help impoverished and homeless individuals and families in the Coachella Valley.
