What is the Thanksgiving Day 5K?
The Thanksgiving Day 5K Benefiting Martha’s Village and Kitchen is an annual, family-friendly, run/walk fundraiser in Palm Desert, CA. The goal of the 5K is to raise awareness about Martha’s Village, while also providing funds to support our mission to end hunger and homelessness in the Coachella Valley. Over 4,000 people attend the event including participants, spectators, and volunteers.

When/where is the event held?
The Thanksgiving Day 5K is held on Thanksgiving Morning each year. This year’s 5K takes place at the intersection of El Paseo and San Pablo in Palm Desert (across from Starbucks). The race starts at 8:00 AM. On-site registration/packet pickup opens at 6:00AM

How much is registration?
Registration is $40 per person age 13 and up. Children age 12 or younger are $32 per person.

Is there an age requirement?
There is no age requirement. Participants and spectators of all ages are allowed to attend and watch the event.

Do I have to pay for and register my children?
Children under the age of 5 do not have to be registered to participate, but will not receive an event shirt, bib number with timing chip, goodie bag or other benefits. Note that shirts are available for purchase at the event after registration closes.

Is the race timed?
Yes, all registered participants receive a race number that includes a disposable timing chip.

Can I bring a dog on a leash or a child in a stroller?
Yes! Dogs and strollers are welcomed and encouraged!

Can I register the day of the race?
Yes, you can register onsite on the day of the race starting at 6am up until 8am. Please look for the “New Registration” table.

I registered online, but I never received a confirmation email. What do I do?
First, be sure to check your spam folder to ensure it didn’t end up in there. We can resend your confirmation email to you upon request. Simply email kstauffer@marthasvillage.org with your name, email address (if different), and phone number.

Can I mail in my registration and payment?
Yes, please make a check payable to “Martha’s Village and Kitchen” and include on a separate piece of paper your full name, date of birth, email address, phone number and what size shirt you would like.

Can I get a discount on groups of 3 or more?
Although there is not a specific group discount, there are several promo codes available to help with savings on each registration. Look for promo codes on our social media sites, or sign up for email notifications from Martha’s Village Kitchen at our main website: https://marthasvillage.org/.

How will I receive my race number, shirt and/or merchandise? When/where are packet pickup locations? 
Shirts, race numbers and merchandise must be picked up before race day at either of the two packet pickup days or on race day.
Packet Pickup Day 1 will be held on Tuesday, November 20, 2018 at TIME & LOCATION TBD.
Packet Pickup Day 2 will be held on Wednesday, November 21, 2018 at TIME & LOCATION TBD.

Where should we park at the event?
Please park at The Gardens on El Paseo parking structure located on Shadow Mountain in between Larkspur and San Pablo in Palm Desert. You will not be able to enter the garage from San Pablo due to road closures, so please enter on Shadow Mountain and Larkspur.

What time does the race actually start?
Promptly at 8:00 AM.

What time should I arrive to the race?
If you would like to register on the morning of the race, please plan to arrive by 6:00 AM when registration opens as lines at the registration table grow long closer to race time. If you are preregistered, plan to arrive by 7:00 AM so you have plenty of time to park and pick up your shirt and race number (if you did not already pick it up at one of the packet pickup days).

What time is the race over?
The race should be over around 10:30 AM.

Can I purchase just a shirt?
After registration closes on the day of the race (at approximately 8:15 AM), any remaining available shirts are for sale. Please note sizes and inventory availability can not be guaranteed.

Will water  and snacks be provided for participants?
Yes, water from our water sponsor can be picked up near the finish line, along with complimentary juice and bananas.

When and where will the results be posted?
The results will be available immediately after the race is over at the Medals table.  They will also be posted online at: www.marthasvillage.org/5K

How are funds raised from the 5K used?
Revenue raised from the 5K stay in the Coachella Valley to help local neighbors in need with food, clothing, shelter and more. In addition, it helps to keep Martha’s Village & Kitchen’s programs and services free.

Is there a minimum amount participants must raise in order to participate?
No, Martha’s Village & Kitchen does not require individuals to raise a minimum amount to participate in the 5K. We ask individuals to register for the walk ($40 for individuals 13 years of age and older, $32 for children age 12 and under) and set a goal to raise additional funds from friends and family.
